  • I've always had a massive obsession with high speed videography. I was fortunate enough in 2025 to have found a Phantom V210 on eBay for a very good deal. As fantastic as this camera is, I have wanted a camera with even higher frame rates to film things like the speed of light. This has kickstarted my current ongoing project to build a camera capable of filming at 2 billion frames per second. I got the general idea for this camera from a Youtube Video by Alpha Pheonix, where he used an ocilliscope and a mirror to measure the the individual pixels of the scene. I decided to improve upon this idea, and rather than using a large mirror, I used a DMD device, typically used in DLP projectors. This has allowed me to shrink the overall design to something that can fit in my hand and increase the resolution and acquisition speed significantly. Currently, the only bottleneck in this project is the speed that the ocilliscope can acquire data.
  • I plan to continue to improve upon this project by implementing some of the skills I learned while working with Prof. Corvalan allowing me to capture objects with more complicated dynamics. This project has really pushed my skills in both hardware, software, and designed and opened my mind up to the field of compressed sensing. Currently, the videos that I have captured have mostly been LED's blinking at around 100 us. Below is a low resolution test of this LED. I plan in the future to build a fempto-second laser to capture light propigation across the room.
